Egr valve update?

Old 6.7 egr valves that suck to remove for multiple reasons like bolts snapping and the exhaust pipe sometimes not coming off, are they compatible with the updated slightly easier to install/remove version? I work at a dealership and the smartest diesel tech I know has never tried, he's too by the book.

probably talking about the EGR cooler. Yes it is backwards compatible.

Bolts, regardless get stuck or rusted. That will not change. Big change is a better cooler that won't clog.

For the bolts there are many ways to deal with it.

Earlier this year, i had my EGR cooler core replaced just under when the extended warranty expired...

Believe it or not, even here in the rust belt, I got lucky and the bolts didn't snap... Truck had 117k miles then i want to say.

Another user here said to get the truck hot then try to remove.... I'm sure he used a penetrant as well...

I still haven't gone back to the dealer but when I get a chance I'm going to ask how many 17 plus cores they've replaced... I asked them to install one but Ford won't warranty the job when using an un-authorized part which is nuts to me but it was what it was.

The 17 plus cores will fit your truck if you have a 11 to 16 truck.

I also want to pull my bolts back out, they replaced them, and nickel never seize them for a future replacement as this truck is a keeper...

Every time I've had to do an egr cooler on an 11-16, it always gets the 2017+ guts. It lasts longer and doesn't plug up as easily.

Yeah makes sense when they upgraded the part... But that was what i was told... I don't let my truck idle a lot and it was just starting to plug, the cold side i believe does right?

How many more miles does the 17 core last you think spit balling it?

On the subject of egr valves and the bolts that snap…..the upgraded bolts for the egr tubes are thicker and are not interchangeable with the original size bolts. I do not know if you can drill out the old bolt holes and drill out the holes on the engine side of the egr tubes and retap to accept the larger bolts.

I removed my egr bolts twice on my 2019 with 24k miles….i used the run the motor to full temp and tap the bolt heads with a socket extension a few dozen times , spraying with penetrate everyday for the week before and during. 1 of the 4 engine size bolts was stuck and I was concerned about breaking the bolt head. But eventually it cane out using the slow drag method . When I reinstalled I nickel anti siezed , when I removed it 2k miles later it wasn’t easier and just as difficult.
