Question Carplay Audio Reciever

Tried to search on here to see if anyone had info on installing a Carplay compatible audio receiver in their 1970's vehicles, but could not find anything.

Does anyone have experience or recommendations on a head unit that will work with a 1975 F150? i could co with the bluetooth capable retro ones, but curious if a Carplay type is available?

(1) BOSS Audio Systems BVCP9700A- FL and
(2) Stereo install kit Ford F150 F250 1973 1974 1975 1976 1977 1978 1979 truck F100 from battlebornbrakes on Ebay.

I have this in my 77 and put in my 78 before I sold it. Works great and I love the touchscreen. I installed a "1999-2004 Ford Explorer Ranger Lower Dash Ashtray Airbag Switch Trim Panel" from eBay and ran the USB hookup to a "BATIGE USB 3.0 & 3.5mm Car Mount Flush Cable" to where the airbag indicator was. Now I have touchscreen maps and music as well as hands-free audio. Bonus points also for hooking up a "BOYO VISION VSL300L - Full-Frame License Plate Backup Camera with Built-in LED Lights"

This is what I used to mount the USB to the Ranger lower dash panel (only the outer bezel) 1-Pack Cigarette Lighter Socket, 12V Power Outlet Receptacle for Car Marine Motorcycle ATV RV, with Wire Fuse DIY Kit by Riseuvo.

I also got an antenna extension but I probably don't need it.

OK, so I ordered a different receiver unit along with the recommended stereo install kit on eBay. I have also purchased two door speakers (my F150) did not have them originally. I found the recommended wiring system from Dennis Carpenter that someone else recommended. I ordered a replacement dash speaker as well. How will I wire up the dash speaker in addition to the added door speakers?

Update: Car door speakers and sound deadening insulation added along with a 2 channel in dash speaker. Have also installed Kicker 12" sub behind the seat. Installed the backup camera, and just about have everything wired to the new head unit. The only remaining two wires I need to hook up are the 12v switched source and the reverse wire (for activating the screen and camera when car is shifted to reverse).

Does anyone know which wires these are in a 1975 F150 or the best/easiest wires to tap into for these sources?

I dont know wire colors but I would look at the fuse box for key on power and use a fuse tap for power.
I would tap into the power side and use a fuse on the wire to the radio.

Where is the NSS / REV. switch? Is it on the transmission or low on the column?
I would look at it and find the wire going to the rear and tap it with a wire to the radio.

12v switched source = I would use the 12V radio power wire. If you are asking which one that is, I'd have to consult my wiring diagram at home. Your radio only needs BAT, 12V Key on and ground.

For the reverse wire - Your NSS is on the bottom of the column. I forget which one is the reverse signal power but whatever is it, it's the same color as the wire going to your reverse light (bulb). White or Brown comes to mind. You can always put your truck in reverse and turn the key to accessory (don't start it) then test which of the four wires from NSS plug under your dash throws power. You can also use that to test and adjust your camera w/o starting your truck. If you need power at your camera in the rear of the truck then you'd splice into the wire going to your reverse light (bulb).

If you don't have a NSS or it is hotwired (like two of mine previously) then you don't have reverse lights.

If you are adding power for an amplifier or subwoofer, I would use the radio's 12V as the trigger for a relay that runs to the battery.

Does that help?

Yes - As long as I grab the switched wire for the old radio, that should work. I would think I could tie into the reverse lights circuit for the reverse wire?

Unless I'm wrong - The reverse light circuit starts at the NSS and then goes to the firewall then down through the engine bay to the back of the truck on the driver's side. It splits near the rear bumper for the passenger side. In other words, the wire is right under your dash at the base of the column, it's one of four wires on a plug that comes off of the NSS. You can tap the wire anywhere you want from the column to the rear, but I'd go with the closest.

I assuming you have a column NSS which is up to 1978. My 78 had the NSS on the transmission and that wire ran up through the engine bay and I don't think ever went into the cab.

I got everything all wired up and working but the output volume to the new speakers is very low when turned all the way up. Going to try and figure out how much power is coming into the head unit. I ran a cable all the way back to the battery, but it is only 18 gauge wire, so maybe the unit is not getting enough juice to put out 240 watts?
