Rear view mirror?
I was thinking of using this one: Amazon Link
Anyone have a better suggestion? Also, my windshield has never had one installed. Is anyone able/willing to provide a couple measurements for placement?
As for placement get a grease pencil, fold down the visors and place the mirror up so it clears the visors and you can see out the mirror.
May need someone to hold it up in place as you sit in the seat. Once it clears the visors and you can see out of it mark around the base of the mirror.
Now on the outside mark where the mirror was on the inside because you will need to clean the inside and the inside grease mark will be gone.
Now you can prep and glue the mirror base tab to the glass just MAKE SURE the tab is facing the right way before gluing it to the glass.
I would also not mount the mirror to the tab for a few days just to make sure it has set up good.
BTW I have a glass shop install a mirror tab and they mounted it to high and could not use the visors with out moving the mirror.
It also fell off a few days later and I just left it off as I had good outside mirrors and I pulled a trailer a lot and the car blocked the inside mirror.

The original mirror in my 79 F150 is 9" wide. I seem to recall that some of the more upscale trucks (Ranger XLT) got a wider mirror, but I could be wrong on that.
Mounting tab is 2" down, to the top of the tab. Centered of course.
Originally the button was maybe 3" from the top, dead center. The mirror was in my way. I removed the button and drilled it for a counter sunk screw, mounted it to a plate secured between the inner visor clips and cab interior. I mounted the mirror on that. I's never fell off, nor likely to and while the mirror is higher, it gives a great view of the roadway behind. I have since then added a shelf to the back to set my XM antenna on, but it's not here.

As far as suggestions, I recommend a used Gentex (from Ebay) that comes with homelink (to open garage doors), compass and auto-dimming. You might pay $45, tops. I've put several of these in old cars and love them. I don't like to flip the originals up when someone is driving behind me at night and blinding me so the auto-dimming is very useful. I also like not having a garage door opener clipped to my visors. You'll need to run 12V key on, 12V BAT and a ground, but that's easy. You can splice off of the radio circuit if you have an original harness. These are a little bigger than the original, but not much.
