.This is on my 2013 F150 supercrew 3.5 ecoboost 198880 miles. First of the week all the sudden speedometer quit working, info center went blank (all dots where the numbers should be) including the odometer. engine light came on along with the wrench light. Pulled codes and got a P0720 and P0722. Both output sensor codes. I ordered a new speed sensor (motorcraft) from rockauto. It stated it was located on the rear end housing. Got out there this afternoon to change it out., found a sensor on the rear end and pulled it out, evidently this was not the speed sensor, It was a two piece sensor and when I pulled it out I guess the other part fell down in the deferential. So now it looks like I'm going to have to drop the cover and fish out that piece. After searching here I find out the output shaft speed sensor is in the transmission, guess I should have come here first, instead of trusting info on rockauto. Questions are, Can I replace the speed sensor in the transmission. Second what is the sensor I pulled out of the rear defferential?

Thanks in advance,

That sensor is part of the "Lead frame" main control body harness inside the trans, it is not serviced separately. You'll have to replace it then, and I'm not entirely sure may need some programming changes to accept the new part. Ford has a recall on this issue you may be eligible for. Call your local Ford dealer service department and have them run an "Oasis" on your vin# to determine if it's covered or out of pocket.
P.S. DO NOT CLEAR CODES. The dealer will need to verify they exist for the recall program.

just got my recall notice for the speed sensor issue. Supposedly it is a software "update" fix. Current miles is 245K on my 2014 SCrew.
I had heard of the issue of trans downshifting to 1st (?)at highway speeds because it "thinks" it is going much slower.
Update 7/18/24: Just had the recall #24S37 update done. Drove to dealership in morning running normal. Pick-up, problems right away: 1-coming to the first stop, feels like "powerbraking", like it is in gear and surging/stumbling. 2-go two more blocks and waiting at red light, in D, idle is surging from 400-800rpm then idles down and dies. restarts easily, no CEL. 3-Immediately returned to shop and informed, I asked if a "relearn" had to be done by driving, they said no. 4- after it died 6x in front of my house, got a "CEL P0100 Mass Airflow Sensor" ?, so I replaced it and it got better so I tried to give it a drive cycle. 5- final symptoms prior to dropping off at dealership 2nd time. a) starts and at idle, rpm surges, sometimes dies with immediate restart. b) running in P, rev engine and release, it idles down to stall. c) running in D, idles from 400-700rpm and sometimes dies. d) still no CEL
any ideas?
maybe reprogram needs to be done again?
strange that replacing Mass Airflow Sensor(aftermarket) "helped" because prior couldn't make it 30ft without dying 6x
Update: returned to shop. They cleaned the TB, all is fine running 2 days now. Advised that TB may need replacement if symptoms return.
