I have a 2017f250 6.7 I know this sounds very stupid how do you know if your engine has done a regen I have 38000 on it and I have never felt one thank to all
One thing is for sure, your truck has gone into regen many many times over the course of your 38k miles. Most people don't feel a difference. I can feel a little difference in the way some shifts happen during regen, and I notice a difference in back pressure. Similar to when the exhaust brake is on. Some other indicators would be hard to notice unless you were going slow or stopped, like smell and ticking sounds coming from the exhaust. Without enabling the DPF% screen, or using some other scan tool to monitor it, the instant MPG display will show a decrease in your usual MPG while in regen.
Lower fuel mileage, the smell of burning plastic when stopped, or if your truck has the DPF % screen available, watching it fall will be your que as to a regen happening.
Put you instant fuel economy screen on and watch it over the course of 500 miles. You will see the fuel mileage go way down when the active regen is running.
It has done a Active Regen every 500 miles, Unless you have disabled the Auto Regen feature. Some of the various scan tools will show you the Distance from Last Regen and the Average Regen Distance. You can see both in the bottom corners of my Edge CTS photo that I have included. As well as it has a little green light that comes on during regen. Don't worry about. Your truck is doing it's job and not bothering you with details.
Yes, when the instant fuel economy bar goes down around 11-12 MPG and stays there when normally it would be aup above 16, stays that way for about 15-25 mins then you know it did an active regeneration cycle.

Easy way to tell for sure. Regen destroys fuel economy immediately.
But I do also have a Scan Gauge II hooked up to my OBD port. It was like $50 bucks and it monitors a LOT of thing including regen status and how full the DPF is.
Its real easy to know when it regens; on my 2019 F350 it seems to wait until I am getting trailer ready for travel, engine is idling and I am somehow working near the exhaust pipe. When it kicks in, the engine idle goes up and it starts blowing REALLY hot air out of exhaust. I would like to see a change in programming where it only kicks on while driving as we never notice it then, even when towing.

That may not be a regen. I don’t think automatic regens start while in park. My truck revs up when I leave it idle too long, after the latest PCM emissions update.
