Another A/C vent problem
I know the issue of the A/C blowing out the defrost is a common problem and has been discussed a lot here. But most of those posts are when it is staying in the default mode of defrost. On a recent trip my 2001 F250 V10 suddenly went into the default mode. It kept blowing out the defrost for probably 10 minutes, then went back to the A/C vents. It did this several times but then started working properly for the remainder of the trip. It has not done it since. I was hoping to be able to easily access the actuator so if it happened again I could manually set it. But it seems that process is quite an ordeal. So any ideas on what might have caused this brief problem would be greatly appreciated . It gets really hot here and to lose the A/C on a long trip would be bad. Thanks

Not 100% sure on your particular truck. On some the vacum system uses a tank and a check valve. If it uses engine vacum the check valve prevents the vacum from depleting on acceleration. Look at the hoses and the tank and look for a check valve teed in.
