Hey all. Just recently did a F-Superduty hydroboost conversion on my 1996 powerstroke F-250 CCSB. Bought the hydroboost, master cylinder, and the lines for the 1996 F-Superduty installed them and raised the pin on the brake pedal to match where it would be on the F-Superduty. It seems like I did everything right but my brake pedal only seems to build pressure to the brakes about half way down from its new travel range and hangs out there most of the time, however when I have the wheel turned left or right locked my pedal raises all the way back up on its own. It’s almost got me in a situation a couple times because I’m used to it being further down. I’ve seen people say the brake pedal is supposed to be higher after the conversion, right now it sits about where it did with the vacuum booster maybe slightly lower and then sometimes raises up higher on its own. Any one have and ideas what the issue might be? Any help is appreciated.
Welcome to hydroboost
They act like that
Spongy pedal and then good brakes (about half way down the pedal gives good brake response), that is normal
Pump them a few times and you have no power steering assist (also normal)

Just as a grasp for straws, did you also replace the power steering pump for one with hydroboost? The power steering pump for a hydroboost vehicle should put out more pressure than vacuum brake boosted vehicle. At least that was the difference when I did a GM G-body through Hydratech for hydroboost and Lee Steering for my power steering pump rebuild & steering gear box. Could possibly make a difference. Ford might have used the same power steering pump or had a different one.

I have not, but as far as I know the only difference in an F-Superduty ps pump and a regular f250/350 obs ps pump is an extra hose return outlet.

UPDATE: Changed the PS pump for the one that came in the 96 F-Superduty and the pedal now raises all the way up every time now on its own without turning the wheel. It seems getting rid of the T junction that had to be added with the old pump where both return hoses met solved this issue. Still no brakes until the pedal is halfway down though. I surmise it has something to do with not having rear disc brakes on the truck, unless of course I somehow have the incorrect master cylinder. I certainly doubt that though. I guess I won’t really know until I do the 05’ axle conversion with rear disc brakes. Hopefully this thread can at least help someone else a little that may experience the same problem with theirs. Cheers.
