While I sold my 7 company trucks that had the 7.3, from F350 to F50, they were great while I had them.
They were abused, worked hard, and only problems were 3 batteries, 1 alternator, and 1 leaking rear diff pinion seal, all quickly repaired and under warranty, even the batteries.
They ranged at time of my selling them with the company, from 82,000 kms up to 271,000 kms.
Now I own just 2 F350s, both have the 7.3 and so far 0 issues.
The 2021 is my camper hauler, has 83,000 kms, while my 2024 has only 2,900 kms.
Just had the long block replaced on my '22 f250 7.3. 54,500 miles, limited light towing, mostly mountain driving. First check engine light happened, and then within a day I had a rough idle and lower power. Replaced plugs, wires and coils, no improvement. Ford didn't have a service appointment for 26 days, and had my truck back to me with a new block in 28 days, so unless they started earlier than they said, it only took 2 days from diagnostic to returning it to me.
@grawk At least you got a "warning". I had zero symptoms until it suddenly broke. Hopefully the new long blocks that we got have an update to reduce the likelihood of future failures. Ford did right by us through the replacement process and it was replaced promptly.
After looking for last few months and buying a F350 Tremor 7.3 I can tell you one thing most every dealer I looked at the 7.3 and 6.8 engines was definitely dominated at most every dealer it used to be nothing but diesel’s. That says something in a way.

It says the price of trucks is too crazy high IMO. I also see way more XLT trucks where as pre covid the lots where mostly Lariat's .

The money is drying up. When people had money or credit and they could order what they wanted cause dealers had nothing they ordered higher trim. Now that people don't have as much money/MSRPs went up year over year over year and people have less available credit they are forced back to lower trim trucks. Credit card debt is up, average vehicle loan monthly payments are up, mortgage payments are up. For the price of a new truck I could probably buy enough spare parts and fluids for everything with a motor that I own to last me the rest of my life.

Agreed.... I simply refuse to pay $80k/$90k for a Lariat grade truck for my personal use. Historically I would trade my trucks for a new one every 7 years and next month my current truck will be 13 years.
I certainly hope my current truck will be the last I ever buy. That's the plan anyway. So far no problems at all. All prices reflect fed money printing for decades. INFLATION

Quality doesn't meet value anymore. $1400 for taillights and $2000 for a headlight is insanity. It's to the point now that just the cost of ownership for these new trucks is too expensive even for the majority of people who own them. >$1000/month payments and replacement parts are through the roof for inferior quality. Motorcraft parts used to be the best you could buy and now my brother's F150 was getting up there in mileage and half the stuff he bought had "Made in China" printed on the Motorcraft box and the price reflected a Made in USA part.

I always had Lariets. This 2024 is xlt. Lariets get more and more crap installed you have to take so the price has gotten crazy and the crap isn't worth it and half the time it doesn't work as good as the hype. So I got a xlt with my chosen needed options and am happy. 60K sticker for F350 7.3. Don't miss the backup sensors,360 camera, heated seats etc etc
Agree prices are crazy. Consequences of federal reserve money printing and gov debt. As far as Lariat I use my heated and cooled seats every day. Also the 360* cameras are incredibly useful. All the other nanny stuff including HUD I have no use for. Hopefully the last truck I ever buy.
Having a DRW the 360 cameras are very useful. I have no use for leather and I put seat covers on immediately anyways so heated seats are fine but cooled seats wouldn't work for me. When I was driving back and forth from Alaska the max recline seats would have been nice but that was holding up orders and then got dropped altogether so I'm glad I didn't order a Platinum at the time. My XLT has everything I need.

It's because there an azz for every seat and every young buyer feels they're entitled to a fully loaded truck even if it means they take an idiotic payment for 7-10 years.
