Drivers side window is up and does not function. When pushing the window button I hear the relay clicking.
There was none of the typical grinding noises when the regulator goes bad. I assume that it is the motor only. All the other windows work.
I understand it is possible to change the motor without removing the regulator. I know I will need to tape the window up. It seems that I saw something
about the regulator spring releasing when the motor is removed. Is the correct? If so how do I avoid that happening? I have replaced regulator/motors on
too many occasions on other vehicles, one being a 1999 Crown Victoria.
After more investigation the motor can be removed without removing the regulator. See youtube video link below, about 6:45 minutes in. I removed my motor and started to test and clean it. After 25 years it still worked, but a bit slow, contact cleaner to the rescue. Put it back together all all works as it should.
If it decides to quit working I will replace the motor. I’ll post back if a new motor is needed in the future.
The nice thing about the regulator in my expedition there are no cables, it is all bars and rivets. So less to break.
