I didn't get an email from you about the OBD cable, STAR Tester Cable. (Self Test Automatic Readout). I can't PM anyone until I am a member for 10 days. Had to re-register because it's been a while.
I got the cable that I bought from novispecial in the mail today. It was indeed the cable I was looking for. I now know the answer to the question can you use the ODBII cable with an ODB1 adapter to connect the NGS to an older ECU without the proper cable? The answer is no. The pins on the connector that go to the NGS unit itself are setup with totally unique pinouts. In order to make it work with the adapter cable, you'd have to be able to crimp a Stewart Compu-Shield 311515 connector OR have a cable that had all the correct pins needed going into the NGS connector already crimped in and then splice the connector in to the appropriate wires.
I did some quick digging, the connector is available brand new for about 15 bux a pop. The crimper is 320 bux a pop and the correct die to crimp the connector is another 327 bux. So all in, just to crimp a single connector it looks like you are at 657 dollars plus tax and shipping. If you knew someone that had the right crimper/dies then making your own is probably not beyond reach, but unless you know a LOT of people that are willing to chip in, fixing a broken cable or making net new ones is gonna have a hefty startup cost.
And now my favorite part. After searching several days a week on ebay for quite some time and coming up with NOTHING for the cable I needed that I bought from novispecial (thank you again for selling it to me), there are 2 of them for sale on ebay! I'm not at all mad about that, its just infuriating that when you are looking for something on ebay you can't find it and then after you get what you were looking for, it pops up on ebay and you are just like seriously?!?!?!? This is not the first time this has happened to me and I'm sure it won't be the last.
