Strange Noise...

Kept hearing a strange noise while rolling along at low speeds, 50 mph or less, coming from the right front area.
It was a rhythmic sort of light thumping noise, and very regular.
Meant to check it the next time I stopped, then kept letting it slip my mind.
After a while the noise went away.

Now I know what the noise was, and apparently it is now torn far enough to not make the noise anymore.
I worried about these when I installed them, they are not vey substantial, but I really thought it would be one of the rear ones that would go instead of the front.

I guess it kind of makes sense, when going through loose asphalt material, rain and snow the front first pushes most road debris out of the way and sprays part of it to the mudflaps, and the rear just follows in a pre-plowed path. With the kind of miles you out on your rig just a cost of doing business.

Weathertech seemed to hold up OK. Do them make them for the SD?

Not the thin rigid plastic like the others but the cost goes up for a thicker flexible flap

They lasted nearly 3 years, got to be something better though.
I guess torn off is better than body damage.

Just replace I with OEM. Probably around $50-$60 for the front set and you'll have an extra drivers side if that one ever goes.

That inside screw probably came loose and nothing was holding that in. Same thing happened to mine but I caught it before it tore off.

I just got a set of these. I was under the impression they were rubber not a "hard plastic" type material. Are yours the same? I double checked part numbers and everything from order to packing list to package label is correct.

Definitely not rubber, but not really hard plastic, molded but pretty flexible.
If they were too soft, they would just flap back in the wind as you went down the road, wouldn't offer much splash protection.
I believe I am going to get a set of Husky, can get a full set for about what just a front pair of Ford ones like I have would cost.

The rear Ford molded flaps at least have a metal brace on them. So I'm not surprised the front went bad first.
The Ford flaps have worked well for me on several trucks. But I'm sure that I do not put anywhere near the miles on that you do.
