Confirming Mileage

Does anybody out there know if their is a way to confirm the mileage of my 2001 F250 V-10 4X4 Crew Cab ? A friend of mine says the any repair shop can tap into the computer of the truck and confirm this. ( even if the speedometer was disconnected ?)
Is This True?

Is the odometer on your truck digital or mechanical?

I think you are referring to the Odometer reading right?

I think the reading is stored in the 'puter.

Can't imagine the speedo ever being disconnected these days. Too much stuff is "connected' to that particular bit of information. Truck runs like crap without a working speed/odometer.

Hey Guys! my mistake - I mean't to say I have a 2001 F-250 4X4 Crew Cab with a V-10. I'm trying to find out if I can confirm the true miles the are on the truck. The truck shows 17,000 miles, it had 14,000 when I bought it. It has a mechanical odometer. Can the truck show a discrepancy if it is hooked up to a computer at your local repair shop. The reason I ask - The exhaust and under carrage show alot of rust.
