I've got a '99 for F550, single cab, dually. It currently doesn't have a bed, but I've got an 8' x 14' flatbed I'd like to put on it. Problem is, I'd like to use the truck to pull my horse trailer. Currently have a gooseneck trailer, but willing to switch to a 5th wheel trailer if I need to. Heck, if I have to buy a semi trailer to make it work, I will.
The dilemma here is, as I have it measured, the gooseneck hitch would be sitting three feet behind the rear axle for the corners of the flatbed to have turning clearance.. which obviously isn't going to work with 6 horses behind me.
Ideas? Suggestions? Is there a way I can make this flatbed work? Or is this a lost cause? Thanks.
Do you have fabrication skills/equipment? Cant you just cut the bed to fit? If it sticks out that far no way your wheels are where they are designed for the bed. Center the wheels and cut from there. Or get a truck that can utilize that bed if you really like it, sometimes a new truck is cheaper than a new horse trailer 😩
I don't think you truck is designed for that long of bed or your axles would be further back. Putting a to long of bed on any truck would put to much bed behind the axles causing a weight distribution problem. if you find a shorter bed clip the corners so the bed will clear the trailer when turning.

Question. How long are the frame rails on the truck? That may be another issue that must be dealt with before going any further. If the 14’ bed puts the hitch point 3’ behind the axle the rails might be too short for a 14’ bed. Only YOU have the tape.
