Angry Random Cylinder Misfire Help Needed

2001 Ford F150 4.2L
Original problem noticed was lack of power going up a small hill. Felt like I was about to run out of gas but had plenty of gas. Kept getting worse over the next week or two to the point that engine was running rough.

Searched everywhere for a vacuum leak but could not find one. Even paid a shop to find a vacuum leak with no luck.

Changed the following over the last few weeks. 1. Sparks plugs. 2. Plug wires 3. EGR Valve 4. Fuel Filter 5. PCV Valve. 6. Check fuel pressure which is fine. Problem only seems to be getting worse to the point that I am now getting misfire codes. I will get a misfire on cylinder 4, replace the plug (Motorcraft) and two days later I get a misfire on cylinder 3. Baffling.

Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated.

Start testing/diagnosing instead of guessing and shot gunning parts...

Get a good scanner on it and check the fuel trims, and a cylinder power test..

While I’m not up for the “random parts cannon” approach, it sounds like you missed the coil pack.

Without knowing the mileage on the engine, there’s a good chance it will need isolator bolts and intake mani gasket as well.

Scanner Results

Thanks. Attached are several screenshots showing data from the truck that I made a few minutes ago. It start at idle and then a trip around the area and back to idle. Needless to say if I knew how to understand all of these I would probably not be on here asking for help. Anything anyone see that can help diagnose? Thanks.

Thanks. I did replace the coil pack as well but forgot to include that in my original post. Was hoping to not have to tear into the intake and/or intake manifold runner valve as I just had shoulder surgery. Posting here to hopefully have someone see something before I go there.

Your MAF sensor readings are not right and don't seem consistent. Going from too high to too low at about the same RPM. Almost like there's a bug wing or seed moving around on it. The reading correlates to how much air is passing through the intake tube. One table shows 6.53 lbs/min at 1853 RPM, another shows 1.58 at 1588.

I'd get some MAF sensor cleaner and hose it down. It's easy and cheap.
