My new Excursion with only 900 miles has been in the shop with an electrical problem more than it has been on the road. Fuse #19 shorts out and then the throttle and gages don't work. The dealer had to order some new computer part, it took a week and then it shorted out in the parking lot of the service center when I went to pick up my truck. Has anyone heard of this problem or any problems with Excursions catching on fire?
Sorry to hear you are having problems so soon after your purchase. My 2000 X just started having this problem and has been towed into the shop twice. I would hear a pop, all gauges no longer worked and my "theft" light would start flashing. My engine was still running, but had no power because the gas pedal ceased to function. The mechanics replaced the fuse #19 and returned it to me as "fixed". When it happened the 2nd time I decided that these people would never figure it out and that I better do some research.
From this website, ford-truck.com, I was able to look up Recalls/TSBs for the Excursion and found one that related to this problem. I called the repair facility and told them that there are wire routing problems in the gear shift lever and the overdrive button. I have my vehicle back and so far no more blown fuses. I also reported this problem to the Dept. of Transportaion because it should have a recall issued.
