PCM question

Hey guys I need to buy a new pcm for my 91 f250 xlt lariat with the 5.8. I can only find one listing of the one I had in my truck before online and it’s 450 dollars, I was wondering if I could save money and just buy a cheaper one from oreilys as long as their website says it will fit my truck.

basically would my truck run fine on a cheaper PCM from oreily rather than buying the same one.

Maybe? What transmission is in the truck? Do you still have the calibration code sticker on the driver’s side door jamb? How have you determined that the computer is bad?

Maybe?

Just don't give 'em your original PCM- sometimes they can be repaired relatively inexpensively.
This is where a random, cheap part from the pick-n-pull serves nicely- as a core.

+1 for 'what's wrong with the original?'

You will need a PCM that will run the engine and transmission since you have an E4OD. Once again, why do you think the computer has failed?

The reason I think my pcm has failed is because I was going to drive my truck to school one morning and it died on me, when I turn the key to on position the fuel pumps wouldn’t prime and couldn’t start the truck. So I took my pcm out and put a pcm from a 94 f250 into it just to see if that was the issue, and my fuel pumps primed and the truck started but fluctuates in rpm in park so I need to get a new pcm I think?

Had the samw problem with mine. But with mine water was seeping into the unit watch out for that. You might wanna fix the leaked before you drop a few hundred on the pcm

I got mine from AutoZone, make sure the calibration code is right. I know that you don't know the code but try looking under the hood. If not call your dealership and provide them with you vin and they will give you the code.make sure the calibration number matches or it will mess up the new PCM. If you are going to get it from O'Reilly's or such, make sure it comes with a warranty. They are not really know to last that long. Mine from AutoZone has a 5 year warranty and only costed me 145$$ anyways I hope you get it fixed
