I am going to install one in my bedroom since the HVAC quit after 22 years in service and R22 is EXPENSIVE! The room is 13 x 24, so ideally the unit would mount on the short wall, however, to do so requires going through 3 walls to reach the outdoor unit, which makes the condensate drain problematic since it would have at least 3 bends and could easily back up. The flip side is putting it on the long wall will cause cold/hot spots due to the short width of the room. The other caveat of the short wall install, 3 bends in the copper tubing to get it outside. One bend at the back wall it mounts on to the left, through the outerwall, then another bend to the outside wall of the garage to the outdoor unit up high on the wall. Working copper hardens it which could lead to kinking the tubing.
So anyone who has installed these, what are your placement thoughts?
Doing this because replacing the Evap and Condenser with a 410a costs nearly 3x as much, which would also require new plenum work, which would require me trying to find space to put all my workshop stuff that is in the way.
Too far for the nearest sump, would need to add a condensate pump, but no outlets close enough for that, plus it would be under the stairs. The outside wall is the long wall, but I have not ruled it out yet. I need to actually get the unit first to see what size the indoor unit is before I fully decide. If I do put it on the outside wall, I will have to cut and flare the tubing since I wont be using 16' for that.
on the outside wall, i just run the condensate tube outside and let it drain on the ground. interior units are roughly 32 inches long, 12 inches tall and 10 inches off wall.
It's going on the outside wall. I aint got time for trying something fancy. I hope to have it installed this weekend, have all the tools ready as well as a bottle of Nitrogen to leak tests.
I was going to go the mini split for my garage, decided a portable ac/heater was easier.
Just need to run a hose to the doors edge and an exhaust vent tube thru the wall.
