I agree that there is potentially an underlying issue and retrieving the gear from the pan to Inspect would be very helpful. I have a nice motorcraft distributor sitting here that cost me nothing so I plan to install that and see if the issue i previously had. I will drop the pan and retrieve the gear once I have a bit more time. I'm hoping that it was just a faulty Taiwan made replacement that was at fault.
Just my opinion, but I WOULD NOT put a new/used distributor in without getting the old gear out.. heck, you might no be able to even get one in depending on where the gear itself is...
The gear is definitely sitting on bottom of the pan. I attempted to pull it out of the distributor hole but dropped it on the way up and heard it go to the bottom.

Ahh... as long as you remember it's down there, along with the crank, and don't do some crazy driving to send it bouncing around..
Can you put the oil pump drive in and spin it by hand? I would check that for sure... add a drill and run it for a few mins, see if it gets stiff... could be something got in the oil pump and cause the pin to shear on the gear.
I put the old shaft into the pump and it spins nice and easy with no friction. Checked out the cam gear best I could via distributor hole and looked to be just fine. Decided to move forward and install the new (old motorcraft) distributor and get it all dialed in. The engine seemed to like 12°, it idles great and damn near starts first crank. For now I'll go with the duralast dizzy was just poorly assembled? I'll have to do some more road testing but at this moment it's the best it's ran since I've owned the truck. I'll report back if sheer another pin in the bear future... Thanks everyone for the input and advice, greatly appreciated 👍
