How are the parts store DSII modules? Relative to the unreliable parts store HEI distributors?
ALL parts you buy now can have problems. Not just HEI distributors. Brand new DSII modules can have their problems also. It's the times we live in. If you have a good original part that is working, keep it and keep it going. If you are changing parts during troubleshooting, ALWAYS keep the old parts and put them on a shelf for awhile. And always be aware of what your original problem or problems where, and make note when your problems are changed after installing new parts.. Many times changing out old parts with new causes new problems.
There are many threads on our site about counterfeit Motorcraft glow plugs for the IDI diesels. To decrease the chance of getting inferior quality parts I'd shop at NAPA over O'Reilly's or Auto Zone.
I've gotten mechanical fuel pumps, vacuum pumps and brake master cylinders for my Bullnose truck that fail about once every year.
I can say for the DSII box and the starter solenoid ask for top of the line parts.
I had to replace the DSII box only because the potting would leak out and run down the inner fender and drip on to the garage floor.
I got a NAPA top of the line box and have not had any issues with it for almost 5 years now.
I have the leaky box as a spare.
I had to replace the solenoid because mine would only click and yes I had new cables and good clean connections.
That is also a NAPA top of the line and no issues in about the same time as the DSII box.
