I have a 2004 6.0 powerstroke and i have been having the issue of my truck having a long crank start up and if i dont press the gas pedal when it starts up to give it gas itll just turn off but once it turns on itll turn on fine if i havent had the truck off for more than 10 min. If anyone knows what this problem may be please let me know. Thank you!
it’s not that simple your description leads to few different possibilities
You need a scan tool live data and codes
when was fuel filters and oil change last service done factory oil cap and filter??
can you post a picture top engine
the fuel filters and oil change were done about 4,000 miles ago
It is not a factory oil cap it is one of the ones that come with the filter due to the previous owner doing the oil service and used the oil filters that come with the cap
The first thing you should do is buy an OEM oil filter housing cap and an OEM oil filter. Get them from a dealership. Then you can check the rate at which cranking fills up the oil filter housing (do this when pushing down the drain valve). Post the "fill time". Then you need to keep the drain valve pushed down when you stop cranking - just to verify that the level does not drop. This shows the condition of the housing drain valve.
Then, as Benny posted, you need a good scan tool (ForScan or Torque Pro) so that you can scan for codes and watch the critical engine PIDs during a start cycle.
Posting a video of the following PID values while you are starting would be helpful:
ICP sensor volts
ICP pressure
IPR% duty cycle
rpms
Then, posting a video of the secondary fuel filter housing filling up might provide a clue. This is a 2 person job as it will fill pretty fast and a second person needs to be ready to turn the key off quickly (no need to crank for this test). Watching for bubbles while filling is important.
