F350 Brake question and trouble
Long story short. We've had 4 mechanics look at it since this started. 1st fixed the main issue but broke something else that left us with no brake lights while driving and sudden stops when gently applying the pedal. We stopped by mechanic #2 on the way home from mechanic #1 and #2 showed us what was wrong and how to run it until he could get it in but with COVID that never happened. Mechanic #3 was great about fixing the car but scheduled us in for the truck, then didn't let us know he was having surgery a couple days before our appointment, and wouldn't make it. We happily worked with him to reschedule. He never showed and has ghosted us since. 4th mechanic came out and replaced the brake booster because the one we bought suddenly was broken. He showed it to me and yes it was indeed very broken. The input shaft was very loose like it had broken off inside or at least became unhooked inside the booster. He fixed that and then was only interested in working on my project Dodge. He's ghosted us since I told him I really needed the F350 figured out and fixed because haying season it upon us again and that's the truck we pick up the round bales with.
We have 5 vehicles that need work and we were 100% willing to have him do all of the repairs on all of them including my S.I.L.'s van (a 6th vehicle) that my nephew hasn't fixed in the 6 months since she hit the deer. We are back on the lookout for another mechanic but until we find one (or I finally give up and take it to the local $$$$ dealer to have it fixed) I need to see if I can figure this out again.
Atm, I'm seeing fluid on the inside of the drivers rear dual. The reservoir is full. I'm not seeing anything else wrong. I've checked all of the lines and they are dry other than that one tire. What's happening now is the brake pedal is solid while the engine is off but the second the engine turns on the pedal immediately without hesitation starts sinking to the floor and doesn't come back up until it's pumped up after the engine is turned off again. I'm going to purchase a vacuum bleeder and try that but do you have any ideas what it might be?
Oh and last time it turned out that sometimes taking pictures and following those to put everything back in its place is not always a good idea. From what mechanic #1 said the hardware (adjuster screw) was on the wrong side. I put back what I took off. I matched everything beforehand and put the new stuff back in the same order. Apparently, it was wrong in the 1st place and that's what happened to the brakes. He broke the piece that attaches to the brake pedal that I guess senses the use of the pedal and turns the lights on accordingly. Not sure exactly what it does. Oh and ATM I have no brake lights when pressing the brakes. That's been since Mechanic #4 replaced the booster. If I move the part I replaced up higher the brake lights do come on until I let go of it. I've checked the fuses but they are all fine.
I'm also wondering how the booster was broken. Can someone say a family member who borrowed the truck maybe stomped on the brake hard enough to break the booster? This family member also broke the steering column so I'm wondering if this could be something he could have done.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Katie
