I’m looking to replace the clutch in my 1972 f-250 factory 4wd with an NP435 and a 360 FE. I need to know whether to order a standard lever type clutch or a diaphragm clutch. Any way I can tell without opening the whole thing up? Thanks
The only way to know is if you and look in there thru the fork to see what you got.
But I dont think it makes a difference other than how much it take to push the clutch pedal.
I say this because the lever type you got to have a strong leg to push the pedal the finger type is easy on the leg.
Beside being easy to push it is also easy on the linkage& clutch bushings.
Most old school clutches used the heavy leg lever type but the newer school use the lighter leg finger type.
They both have the same clamping power.
Look at Center Force clutches, all they sell is the finger type.
Think it is the finger type I installed in my 81 F100 with a NP435.
I just asked the parts store for a clutch kit and that is what I got.
In my case I did not know the flywheel could be drilled for a 10" or 11" disc and I got the 10".
If I known I would have gone for the 11"
Been on the road over 5 years and over 28k miles with out any issues and I have pulled a 20' enclosed trailer a few times also.
