Hey all, I have a 1973 f100 with a 390. The intake is a 4bbl cast steel unit from 1962. I'm finishing up things and the system is empty.
Will the 62 temp sensor (small sensor) read correctly on my 73 gauge? cold it was reading 2k ohms and hot in the 70s... Or should I drill out the intake and tap it for the larger 1973 sensor? Or will a reducer work?
Look up the part numbers for both and see if they are the same.
They are not the same, plus the older sensor looks to be 1/8" npt and the the later sensor is 3/8"npt. I can moplace a sensor in my thermostat housing but that's not the best place.
I know I can use an aftermarket gauge set and they are more accurate but I'd like the gauge to work to satisfy my OCD..
I have my original sender in the original position but an aftermarket gauge on the thermostat. It's not a bad place as it's the hotest place on the engine. Only downside it wont really read till the thermo opens.
