Hello all I have a 94 f150 5.0 I need to replace water pump and wanted to do coolant flush, question is which better flush before pump change or after pump change. What is best and safest coolant flush that y'all know of. Also coolant is circulating in radiator water pump just started leaking from hole on top. And help greatly appreciated.
I did this in 2016 on my 1994 F150 5.0:
Flushed with two bottles of Prestone AS-105Y; then flushed with distilled water.
R&R a bunch of coolant system parts:
-water pump Duralast CWP-657 lifetime warranty
-thermostat - Duralast 15359
-heater hoses - ⅝ inch
-bypass hose
-upper radiator hose
-lower radiator hose
-all miscellaneous coolant rubber hoses
-Stant 10329 13lb levered radiator cap
-Prestone ethylene glycol AF2000 - 2 gallons - topped off with distilled water
Never buy a lifetime part from those box stores. Unless you like replacing them regularly. Lifetime means little if you have to do them every 6 months. Good OEM that will last years is better than a lifetime warranty part that might last months.
Beware that the mounting bolts may be seized and break. Have a plan B to replace the entire front cover, thermostat housing, and seized bolts.
