98 Explorer valve train problems

First off, I'm new here so Hi all. Hope someone can shed some light on an issue that I've run into while helping my brother with his truck. He has a 98 explorer with a 4.0L SOHC. A few weeks back the timing chain guides under the jack sprocket detonated into close to a hundred different pieces. We've taken the engine down and replaced the timing chains and guides and retimed it using the ford timing tool for this engine. After finishing we found that all the intake rocker arms on one side are loose, one so badly that when the cam lobe is up you can pull the rocker arm out from under the cam with your fingertips. The lash adjusters appear to be functioning correctly (approx. 102,000 miles on this engine) and the valve springs, retainers, etc. are in good shape. I'm not familiar with SOHC engines as I've always owned and worked on pushrod motors and didn't really want to get into this job for that reason but couldn't really say no to my brother, now I'm stumped and asking anyone with some experience to help me on this.
