Shorted wires in my vanity mirror and it took out my radio and power windows. Checked all fuses and relays in the under dash fuse box. No bad fuses or relays. Searched forums, and similar symptoms led me to send instrument cluster to circuit board medics. Sent it off and got it back. Reinstalled repaired instrument cluster and symptoms remain.
symptoms: neither radio nor power windows work when doors are CLOSED with truck running or not. When I open ANY door and truck is running, radio and windows work. When I start truck and any door is open radio and windows work fine. As soon as I close the door, radio shuts off and windows don’t work.
it is not intermittent. Happens the same every time. Been driving me crazy for about 3 months now.
the accessory relay clicks when I open the door and the radio comes on. Can’t figure out why the relay would only work when I open the door. Have tried replacing relay with known good one and got same result.
Bad door switch? Are you getting door ajar sign on dash? Might sound weird but turn your interior lights on with dimmer switch. See if that causes window and radio to work. To me it's like it's something linked to a door switch or BCM
When I open any of the four doors the radio and windows turn on. So that led me to believe that the door switches are fine. The radio and windows receive power when it is sent because both operate normally when they actually get power. The only other thing I know of in that circuit is the board in the cluster. I Thought about just clipping wires to one of the door switches to trick it into thinking the door is open when it isn’t: but then my door light will always be on.i have worked on lots of weird things but this one might take the cake.
Yeah, I don't fully understand the two ground switches in the IPC diagram. Apparently there is logic in the IPC that determines when to apply power to the radio and window switches. Maybe there is an explanation about this in the service manual text somewhere. A drastic but simple check is to install a junkyard IPC to see if that makes a difference.
So I am an idiot. I looked at the diagrams The truck only uses that circuit when the door is closed. When door is open power gets to radio and windows a different way. Never went back and looked at fuse after reinstalling instrument cluster. It was not even installed. I had pulled it to look at it when I was trying to figure out the issue prior to sending in instrument cluster. Left it in ash tray. But at least now we know. All four doors shut off your radio and windows it is most likely fuse 41. And it had to actually be installed. It does not pass electricity when sitting in ashtray.
So I cleaned all the door switches. Door adjar light isn’t on. Running boards and all interior lights are now stuck on and the only way to get them to shut off is to remove the fuse.
this is worse than before. I could drive without radio and working windows. Don’t know if I can drive around like this. Especially at night.
No. And in fact I even tried unplugging the dimmer switch. Lights stayed on. They are getting power from somewhere else. Accessory delay or security or something else I haven’t thought of.
Read on another thread maybe door lock keypad. Seems strange. I have had this truck for ten years and never used it. Never had any issue with lights. Suddenly I short out the accessory delay, get it repaired, and now the lights won’t shut off. I don’t believe it could be a coincidence.
All I had to do was rip off the dash and beat the fuse box with a mini sledge hammer until the lights went out. Now I am going to the dealership. Sales side because no one is fixing this for a while.
