Engine fire. Rewiring help

I had an engine (gas) fire on my 1978 F-150 2WD 302 engine. Any help with replacing the wiring under the hood would be helpful. Thanks!

You’re going to have to be more specific. Exactly what wiring? Pictures would help.

Exactly. More details, please including pictures!
Was anything else damaged? Just wires, or also hoses and any plastic components?
How are you with wiring projects? Have you ever dealt with any before, or is this a new thing for you?
and finally, for now, was this a gas related fire, or was it strictly an electrical meltdown from the get-go?

Well it could have been a lot worst than just the engine bay.

It looks like it was a gas fire?
Maybe a leak at the fuel line to filter at carb or the accl pump leaking as that looks to be where most of the heat / fire was with the burnt up dist. cap.

Looks like a new dist. would be needed for its wiring for the pickup coil.
Then if you can find someone parting out a truck to get the other under hood wiring and splice it into yours would be nice.
Just hard to tell just what else till you clean up what you got.

Print out a big schematic and start with one at a time.

Been there, done that, except I bought mine that way. It's not as bad as it looks. Once you clean away the burnt pieces and soot and can look at everything objectively, it's easy enough to figure out what needs to be done. Don't tear everything out at once, but study what you have and what's good and bad. If you're unfamiliar with wiring and engine bay electronics, as mentioned, get a wiring diagram and a service manual, learn what it is you're looking at and go from there. You can do this.

Do you know what caused the fire on your truck?

I was just thinking about you, wondering if you started your fix yet. These mid 80's 460 Holley's had a bad habit of the fuel feed line coming loose at the carb, and this one was no exception. As I was tearing into it I found the carb fitting loose, and since that was the central hot spot, I'm sure that's what did it in. I was fortunate most of what burnt was emissions so it was a good excuse to clean up the excess and unnecessary ancillary parts. The A/C wiring and RV hot feed across the upper firewall, ignition, temp sender, choke, and a couple odds and ends was all that needed splicing. A new dist cap and plug wires pretty much wrapped up the electrical. A bunch of new vacuum and rad hoses and I was in business, along with a new Edelbrock intake and carb.
