Just curious, why help someone see your plates? If anything, I'd prefer to go the other way; keep dim lights or have the James Bond style plate flipper. 
I irritates me to even put plates on; but I guess that is the Libertarian coming out.

Here is a semi-stealth option: take the right light housing and put it on the left side, and take the left light housing and put it on the right side. Now, instead of the lights projecting inward toward the plate, the lights project more outward. Your plate still has some light on it, but.......................... Been running like this for four years with no problems, other than a dim plate!

Worry less about him and more about all the criminals out there running fake plates or no plates at all, and cops are too afraid of stopping them out of fear of looking like "disproportionally affecting socio-economically disadvantaged groups".
