I have a 2000, F350, 7.3 Diesel 4x4 Dually. The initial problem I had is that the pedal would not return back so the brake lights remained on. I replaced the Hydraulic Booster and Master Cylinder. Started driving it and out of the blue I had no brakes, the pedal went to the floor. Had it towed to a shop, and they replaced the Power Steering pump and bled the system. The brakes work sometimes, but when I am towing a heavy load or stomp on the brakes, it is hard and no braking. I have to let off and slowly press the pedal and then it eventually works. What am I missing here? Someone said I may have gotten a bad hydraulic booster. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Power steering system needs to be proven good.
Did you use Mercon V in the power steering system? You should as that is the replacement for the original Mercon that is no longer available.
Prober level in the power steering system?
While running remove the cap for the power steering system... No bubbles or foam visible (you will need your good flashlight).
Fan belt good shape, snug, tensioner working properly?
When driving and applying brakes does the steering feel and ability remain the same or do you feel a change?
Alternator putting out about constant and steady 14.2 or so volts while driving and idling?? Use a USB cigar port volt meter.
Where were the parts acquired? Quality matters..... Fleabay, Cramazon, and most internet parts need not apply, suspect most corner store stuff as well.
Yes, used Mercon V. I was concerned about the quality of the parts, mainly the hydraulic booster. When it was replaced first, the pedal still didn't retract all the way. I think I will start there with an OEM one.
