So have a AoD trans when in overdrive. It won’t shift out of 1st gear. When I manually put it in 1st and shift to (D) nothing changes. When I shift to (Overdrive) nothing changes. When I bring it back to 1st it feels like it’s shifting down.
If it will not shift out of 1st gear I would look first at the TV cable and TV lever at the transmission. Does the cable have slack at closed throttle? Is the cable moving freely in its sheath? Is the lever at transmission stuck in WOT position? Is a sticky cable holding the lever in the WOT position?
mine has the tv rod. It feels like it’s freely moving. I’m not sure what WOT position is.

If you have a TV rod if you move the throttle to WOT and note how the rod moves then go under the truck and see if the rod moves the same way to WOT and back to idle on its own.
You have checked the ATF level in the transmission?
