Stick likely says M2C138-CJ but that's long out of production, it can be replaced with Mercon or Mercon V ... but then some sources say no to Mercon V?.
For sure, not type F.
I still have some Dex/Merc in mine. The original fill was a yellow looking fluid, as I recall was made with whale oil.
Good luck trying to get a straight answer on this:
1/4 say use Type F
1/4 say Mercon
1/4 say never mix
1/4 say no problem to mix
I figured that was going to happen lol right now I have type f in it right now I haven’t ran it or drove it with the fluid because I’m still in the process of doing a somewhat restoration
whether Mercon works or not, you can remove it because it hasn't been produced since the early 2000's. i've heard plenty of contention as to whether mercon V can be used in it's place, but that's what replaced Mercon
A c6 can run about any fluid. I ran 15w-40 in mine for a few years because I blew a cooler line on side of road and refilled with 15w-40 and it worked fine so I drove it for the remainder of the 20k service and changed it to ATF and everything is fine. If it fails with a certain fluid then it likely was not because of the fluid. ATF, DEX/MERC/TypeF/Mercon If you take one of these apart and see that the pump is a gear pump and the pistons and seals and realize that no electronics and no lockup converter, I bet hydraulic fluid from johndeere or cat or hytran would work fine. I would not recommend 15w-40 but I know it worked fine and the truck got wrecked. I can tear the trans down and evaluate for wear if someone wants to cross my tracks. It is a c6. fill it up and drive it.
