Post Highboy without lockout hubs

Hello, i purchased a 1975 highboy (i think) sight unseen from an older gentleman in his 90s. He has owned the vehicle from 1977 till now. The vehicle is for sure a 4x4, but as you can see in the granny picture it has hubcaps on the front wheels. The owner explained that you simple shift it into 4x4 and there never has been locking hubs. I was under the impression all highboys had the lockout hubs, which has me scratching my head and worried this is a Frankenstein build. The truck is very original and clean, so i would be surprised if that were the case, but i am hard pressed to thin of another option. Any ideas? Am i wrong in my assumptions? Sorry if the picture granny.

Yes full Time 4X4 was option and used the NP203 transfer case instead of NP205. Post some more pics of your new truck!

And if neither axle had a limited slip or posi, if both axles were "open", in 4wd your traction was limited to that of the tire with the least grip. You could jack one or set one on glare ice and spin it.

In his 90s and still crawling in or out of a highboy. SMH.

You can convert to part time 4wd but I don't see the point.

Hub caps are incorrect by the way, you need the 67-76 style. and high boys didn't have front caps , but you can cut the hole out for the hub if you want them. are the wheels 16" or 16.5 ?

I would take the hub cap off and see if you have a lock in/lock out under there. Or just a solid cap, solid cap ='s full time 4wd.
