Hello all
i have a 2003 Lincoln Navigator and have a
”clunking” noise when I shift into reverse. It is worse when I do this with my foot on the brake. But no noise when I shift into drive. Any ideas on what this might be? Otherwise it seems to drive very well thanks
Hopefully is u joints and not rear end. Any possibility maybe a bad transmission mount or the dofferential stabilization arm bushing?
Possibilities are always there, but in your case it's very low. I still think the most likely cause are the u-joints. Assuming they are original, you have to think about the fact, the vehicle is 21 years old.
Seems like someone on this forum, or other Expy forum, was recently dealing with a clunk and they found a bad mount at the rear differential. Get someone to help and apply a little power (with the brake pushed) in forward and reverse to see if the rear differential housing is shifting. It should be pretty firmly mounted.
