Just over the past week, whenever I start up the truck the radio comes on (in AM mode), which it hasn't before up to now. Also, appears that settings (such as the touch screen beep) are reverted.
So, I decided to see if there was a newer SYNC3 update, and it appears that there is:
I'm hoping that this newer update might correct the annoying power-on issue (and perhaps provide some newer or fixed features).
Has anyone else updated to the 23188 build? Anything unusual or gotchas to report, before I install this update?
Thanks for the confirmation of stability of the release. I'll give it a shot today or tomorrow, hopefully it corrects the misbehavior. It's just strange that it suddenly showed up.
Makes me wonder if I have some sort of voltage drop on startup that's causing fits with how the SYNC3 gets initial power. Hopefully, that's not the case (replaced the batteries about 8 months ago). Guess I'll find out soon...
There's instructions at the Ford site, for both over WiFi and downloading the update to a USB stick and installing it manually. I've opted for the manual update with the USB, so I can trigger the update while I drive (apparently this can only be done while driving if you have SYNC3). Otherwise, I'm sitting near a WiFi connection idling while it installs, don't want that.
I'm glad to hear that the update took care of the radio turning on at engine start. I'll likely update while I drive to work in the morning.

I wouldn't call that forcing an update. His wording makes me think he might have been asking about something else.
I reckon that if you had an older update saved you could follow the instructions in the linked PDF.
However, I'm not sure if it would overwrite a newer version, never tried doing that before.
There is always Cyanlabs too, you can get your maps updated at the same time. Too bad there isn't something for MFT like that.
I didn't realize they facilitated map updates as well. Never had a need to really look into Cyanlabs, but since I have reached the limit for free navigation updates I'll check them out.

When I got my 2019 in 2022, first thing I did was update to 3.4 which included all new maps. I should probably go ahead and do another update since it is almost 2 years since the last one.

I have no problem with 3.0 so never took much interest in 3.4. Just completed the most recent 3.0 update last week. Navigation however they want want me to pay to update now. I guess 5 years of Nav updates is all they will give for free. Not sure who's willing to pay over $100 for a nav update when it's free, and always up to date on a mobile device.
Well, applied the update using the USB stick on the commute to work this morning, took about twenty minutes. When the head unit rebooted, the radio powered on then immediately turned off. That bode well.
Didn't think to restart after I parked to test the update, and walked into work as usual. However, upon leaving work today the radio did not power up when starting the truck. So, looks like the update took care of that issue.
What I can't figure out, is why the behavior just cropped up suddenly without any reason? Weirdness. But, whatever, the issue is gone now!

Ironically, soon after posting the above, I get an email from Ford.
