Step 2, Get a starlink kit, then it does not matter where you are, no repeaters needed. Power up the starlink, and you have your own cell tower, with no repeater needed.
I actually have 2 VoIP phones in my trailer, one is a desk version mounted on the wall, the other is a wifi attached cordless, but VoIP is probably above most people on heres heads technology wise.
we don't actually have cell coverage here at our ranch, unless you stand on top of something at least 3-4 feet high, but we have the big $2500 Starlink Business installed on the roof, and 4 VoIP phones around, 3 in the house, and one in my workshop, between those and wifi calling we are set.
that is my specialty, since 1958....
bird poop, etc, will have no effect on the antenna's efficiency, but mounting it near metal objects at the same height, will just about make it useless.
Back when I was extremely active in ham radio, my antennas were 6 to 10 feet higher than the roof of the vehicle.... at 146mHz, that gave me an extra 25 to 35 miles range.
Line-of-sight is King for radio communications....
the best antenna can't work, if the Signal is just not there.
the only thing you need worry about, is bridge/overhead clearances.
typically 13' 6"
gas stations can be down to 11' 6"
WeBoost is a repeater, do NOT assume it will increase Data speeds, it has to accept the data packet, and repeat it to the cellphone or modem.
It can give you longer coverage range, but in my experience, it just isn't worth the effort.
I have been using a T-Mobile Data hotspot for the last 5 years, it seems to work just as well on the dash, than it does up higher near the Visor. But, that hotspot is for DATA only, WiFi at 2.5g and 5g bands.
No one can give you more range than T-Mobile, because they bought the Lowest Frequency bands available, in the 600-900 mHz range.
AT&T and Verizon are in the 2.5g and 5g and 12g bands, the range drops precipitously the higher the frequency.
once you pass about 2 up and 5 down, the rest is meaningless.
what kills people, is downloading huge files, like when I need to download a new version of Linux, it is 6 to 8 gB and at 2.5mBps it takes a long time to download.
for uploading to YouTube, if the video is longer than about 2 minutes, I don't even try....
a 6 minute video takes 45 minutes plus, usually an hour by the time all the error checking is done.
I looked at Starlink, and yes, it will give 500+mB most of the time, but it is Fixed to one location.... I can't put it in my pocket and ride my motorcycle....
with the T-Mobile Hotspot, I can put it in my Shirt Pocket and it goes inside the Dairy Queen with me, and I surf away....
I have cruised around our home area, and OKC, and have found Locations where it will download at 800mBps, with uploads around 35-50mBps
most of the time, though, this is what we get.
Rumor is it will give you 60-70% of the speed of the residential dish at peak because they condensed the phased arrays in it to make them take up less space... Supposedly it also comes with Standard Ethernet jacks, no need for adapters, etc, like the other models.
in fact, I have unsubscribed from all of the FB junk stuff, just the 7.3L tech groups, Excursion Fanatics group, and a couple of Kubota groups so I can pick up on maintenance items for my sister's tractor and RTV.
I moved her to my home
