Got some more pics from the owner of the red and silver 79 F100. It looks like it would need a passenger side floor pan and maybe a new bed corner (if thats a thing).
Do they make patch panels for rear corners of bed like that? I think I found one. The red and silver one might need more work than I want to do maybe, not sure. I am thinking transfer case, patch panel, passenger floor pan.
The white short box is the most interesting. the '77 would be second , it's probably a 429 not a 428 and that's fine.
I seriously doubt the '79 is original paint. possibly but I doubt it. 1/2 ton long box 4wd's are the least desirable of the 4wd's if you're looking at the investment side of it. swb 4x4's and high boys are most desirable.
i like the bump sides more than the dent sides, but they seem to be more prone to rust and that looks like it's been repainted. there are also fewer re-production patch panels available. i'd want to see the cab floors, cab corners, the cab support beam towards the rear of the cab, the rockers (outer A piller section is hard to source) and inspect the bed thoroughly. i'd also want to see the inner fender aprons as they are almost always rotted away under the battery tray. if there is only rust in the fender and door, that's a great truck (minus that super ugly rear bumper.
the other thing to consider with the bump sides is it was more common to get one without power brakes or power steering if that's important to you (and not cheap to add... ask me how i know lol) and if that's the factory front axle, it has drum brakes all around.
Too much rust for me, and it needs a ton of work. look at things like a trashed seat, broken door handles and crumby mirrors. if a person didn't go to the effort and minimal expense to fix those things you know worse shortcuts were taken on what you can't see.
I'd be really cautious of newer repaints especially on low dollar rigs. under a cheap coat of paint can be a 55 gallon drum of bondo you're going to find the hard way. old paint can hide problems but most of the worst ones will be showing.
Ok so the blue 69 F250 fella sent me some pics of the underside and from what I can tell in one pic it looks like an LMC bed piece was used already to repair the bed. he did mention the bed had already been done. As for the White 78 it has a couple spots that are bubbled up a very tiny bit and its about 8 hours away. Its at a dealership and they have sent pics and photos, it seems in better shape but it was a father/son project so who knows whats in the body.
Got some pics from the dealer with the white 78
could be some bondo in there somewhere. There is a couple holes it looks like somewhere near the exhaust. They are asking 17,500.00
Out of all of the trucks you’ve posted the black one in the first post at least upon first glance appears to he the least ****ed with and that’s one of the most important things in my mind. Yeah the 351m is junk but you can easily swap in a 460 as others have said. I would rather have a stock truck that’s mostly original with even a bad powertrain (if that was even the case here) than an engine some unknown person built, or someone’s restoration. Personally I don’t mind the look of a long bed 4wd
and whoever stuck a 4x4 decal from like a 2018+ f series on that truck has dog **** taste.

I've been contemplating the black one myself with the intent of going to a 460. I think I could get it for 8k possibly and it's 2 hours from me. I could easily drive down and look it over then go from there.
long beds are fine with me as well and IF the body really is in decent shape the only thing it needed was a front fender and get some matching trim for the bed which I think the Dennis Carter place has.
That black truck, again, IF it's what the guy says it is could literally drive me to work 14 miles round trip a day while I fix it up the way I want.
