If you don't want the 335 series, and I don't blame you, look for a '76 or older. or convert to a 385 series it's not that big of deal.
Consider finding something out west and taking a road trip, or having it shipped. there are lots of them here and they're cheaper , take that along with the money you'll save on rust repair and you save money in the end.
Don't shy away from the 351Measly/400's they do their job just fine, I have 3 of them, one in my 77 F150/4x one in my 77 F250 4x, and one in my 78 Bronco, they're not race horses, but WILL get the job done. Just adding a cam and a 4bbl really woke up my 77 F250, gets the same mileage, but is a whole lot more fun now when the skinny pedal actually does something! I'll keep my eyballs open out here... what is your budget for one? I bought and passed on to Patpat a 79 F250 4x from here in CA, I also drove my 79 F250 4x from CA to MO when I sold it to my BIL, was a fun adventure and a nice drive.

I am in Alabama and I have a budget between 11K and 16K prefer to get something this weekend lol!
The black truck doesn't scare too much and I could drive down to look at it to be honest. I think I would have to change the trim on it due to the front fender needing replaced and the bed already being swapped. Dennis Carpenter has the trim I think. Plus a vintage air system would be needed, it gets hot down here!
I am guessing if I went with a 9k truck and put 6k into it (AC/Heat, lift wheels, tires, trim, fender, some sort of paint) I think it "could" look really nice.
For me I need a daily driver to and from work that I can work on while I drive and haul a load or two from Home Depot or Lowes once in awhile.
I'm not into lifts, so all things considered, between just those two, I'd go with the black truck.
With the brown one, your buying someone else's work.

I have to agree with both of these comments.
Too bad the really nice ones have become soo collectible they have got way too expensive for a lot of folks who would love to have one.
The price was right for the one I bought 3 years ago but I have spent nearly 20 times what I paid for it and its still not finished.
i don't think the 351m engine option is my first engine choice, but it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me either... someone heavily modifying a vehicle before me would even if the work was done well is something i'd shy away from. what if he had to get cleaver with suspension parts when he lifted it and how it has a tie rod end from a 94 e350 (idk how different that is just tossing something random out there)... even if it's plenty strong and works great, when it goes you have no idea what to replace it with and it might take you a long time to figure out something that will work and a ton of buying and returning parts. now repeat that with everything he did. i guess i'd make an exception if the mods were what i wanted and the guy had a book of stuff he did detailing the parts he used. I think it would be way better to buy a decent one thats as close to stock as possible and either fix it back to stock or modify as much as you want... either way when something breaks you know what you have and what you did or didn't change.
I like all the comments and suggestions for sure so thank you all for that! As for my budget and distance to some of these vehicles (I am still looking, literally all day at the computer) The black one is the most original and the closest well within my budget. I could get it for probably 8k and then have another 8k to put into. I feel like it would be a really good truck at that point. But, I have not seen it in person yet either.
That looks pretty rough, but it is a SWB 4x4 and that's one of the most desirable configurations.
In the budget you're talking about you can but a pretty decent 4x4. I wouldn't settle for junk , buy something solid that drives and improve it over time if finances require it.
There is this one, it does have 2 holes in the bed itself. One is small the other is 2-3" according to the owner. Asking 16k
Here is the post Ford F100 Ranger 4x4 automatic with A/C. It has the 400 in it. Clean truck no major issues. Starts up on the first crank. The front grill has been swapped to a 1978 for square headlights. Everything works perfectly including A/C. Asking $16,000 or BO
That wouldn't bring near that money around here. remember there are a lot of hack job repaints out there, and that looks like it could be one since shortcuts were even made where you see it.
lots of rigs like this out there, I'd rather find a straight rust free body and put my money into mechanical repair than rust repair. just an example

I may have finally found a couple that would make a decent daily/projects folks. Tell me your thoughts on these.
This is a 1979 F-100 rebuilt 352. No 4WD I think it’s the gear ring I have the front driveshaft out of it. No A/C. Does have a couple rust spots. Original paint. 3 speed transmission
1977 Ford highboy has a 428 engine with a 4 speed transmission. Has new wheels and tires also has all new parts on the power steering.
1969 Ford F250 4x4 Highboy. Truck Runs good has the 360 engine. 4 speed manual trans. Transfer case rebuilt. New tires and rims, carb, brake booster. Other misc parts.
1978 Ford F-150 4x4 4 speed manual transmission 351 V8 Classic auto air a/c system Engine was rebuilt not long ago
Truck came from west coast. It’s solid and shines but not a show truck. Was told it’s a 390 but it’s most likely a 360, 4 speed. 4x4, short bed. Needs tailpipes, and a chrome bumper would really help it out. (issue with this one is its 11 hours away)
