Rear axle
I have a bit of an issue, I am restoring a 1948 F2. The rear axle is not repaireble unfortunately. The rear pinion bearing explodet once and granadet the diff gears, bearings and housing. I can't find gears, pinion or bearings. Now I want to use a different rear axle. I heard almost every axle until 1970 of a F250 shoud fit. The thing realy is that I live in the Netherlands and can't find a good axle. Is there some way I can find one en get it shipped to the Netherlands?
Regards,
Kollin
I rebuilt a 49 F3 a couple of years ago and I installed a rear from a 69 F250. It was bolt in.
You will not find that axle in Europe I suspect, but I am willing to help here if you are not in a huge hurry. I live in Germany now, after having lived in the US for the past 3 decades. I still own property there and my company operates here in Europe and the US.
If you can find a suitable axle in the US (there are websites from junkyards that show the inventory in cars they have - that's how I found my axle), it could get shipped to our US location, and arrangements could be made to ship it to Europe (our German HQ is less than 2 hours from Amsterdam) via our freight carriers.
I cannot promise or say for sure that this would work out, or that It would make sense cost-wise, but could be an option. The shipment to and between facilities with loading docks is much easier to arrange...
One other note, I replaced the bearings, seals and axle nuts (the last of which are not quite so common) as a why-not measure. If you go the F250 axle route, I can help you with getting the right items here, too. There are some differences in the parts as there was a mid-year change (I think in 1969), if I remember correctly.
Best,
Andreas

Another good resource is Chuck at http://www.chuckstrucksllc.com/. Giving him a phone call to discuss options and his inventory.
