2004 Explorer Sport Trac 4X4
On my drive home I was informed that I "have no brake lights, turn signals are working". When I arrived home had my roommate jump in and test, my lights came on and then went out. repeated pressing of the pedal resulted in the lights not coming on. I have recently upgrade to L.E.D.s and thought that maybe one was junk, removed the lenses and turned on the running lights = worked, turned on 4-ways = worked, turned on running & 4-ways - all working. Scratching my head I set the driver side light where I could see it and pressed the brake pedal, at first contact brake light came on, as I added pressure the light went out, art full press the light came on but would got out with the slightest release.
Would this be a faulty brake pressure switch?
Relay hidden somewhere hard to reach?
Or what??
If you have an incandescent test light, use it to determine if you have voltage to the brake light socket even when the bulb goes out. Or if you still have the original bulbs, swap out the LED bulb and see if the behavior returns to normal. If not, then start tracing the circuit back to the source, checking for voltage along the way. It sounds like at least the situation is repeatable so it should be pretty easy to track down.
