2012 F-250 XLT extended cab, I've had it for about 8 months now when I got it the dome lights and cargo lights worked when any of the doors were opened. Now they have stopped working, none of the dome lights come on or the cargo lights. The map lights do still work. I checked fuse 12 in the interior fuse panel and it's not blown. Dash indicates when doors are ajar, so I'd assume the door switches are working. Parking lights/ dash lights come on when doors are opened and closed and go off after maybe 10 seconds. It did have an antenna installed above the rear dome light in the roof prior to my ownership that has been removed. It had leaked onto the backseat through the rear dome light. I do believe the dome lights were working after I sealed the leak. Any ideas where else to look? I've read somethings talking about BCM replacement. My scan tool cannot read BCM codes, but may need to invest in a good one if that's what it takes.
For giggles, spray the bejesus out of the door latch mech in the door, spray up, down, side to side with like Free or PB blaster and open and close the door multiple times see if its just that easy. The switch is notorious for sticking

Yeah, this isn't a problem with the door latch switches
You need to scan the BCM for any fault codes related to the lights that aren't working. If it detects certain faults, it disables the circuit until the fault is corrected AND THE BCM IS RESET with a scan tool, unless the error was deemed fatal to the BAM and it requires repacement. No shortcuts. You'll need a more capable scan tool or equivalent.

Do you have any recommendations on a scan tool? I’d also like something capable of bi-directional testing.
No, I haven’t moved on to other projects and haven’t gotten back to it. It would be nice to have it working though. Earlier replies made it sound like it wouldn’t happen, I’ve wondered how long it would take with the battery disconnected for the bcm to reset to turning them on, if ever.
I disconnected my battery for 20 minutes for the BCM to reset and that did not fix the problem. Guess I'm going to a dealership at this point. I've lived with it a couple years but really would like to have the interior and cargo lights this winter for hunting and feeding cattle. My cab mounted brake light is not working as well. All fuses look good and I changed all light bulbs with no fix.
My cab mounted brake light still works, or at least did the last time I checked. Another odd thing I have noticed is when parked I have noticed the headlights come on for a second and go back out. Only have noticed it in the dark and haven’t tried leaving the switch in off instead of auto to see if that changes anything. Haven’t found a specific reason that makes it happen.
Was just talking about that earlier today, before we know it going to be dark all the time. Feeding cattle in the dark is a regular thing around here also.
I guess i wasn't specific enough in my previous post regarding the resetting of faults in the BCM. FET circuit protection faults in the BCM cannot be reset by any means EXCEPT with a scan tool. Disconnecting power in an attempt to do so will only waste your time.
Basically, with the ignition on open each door and verify the cluster message that corresponds to each door. All good?
Press "UP" on the cluster dim switch until it's fully illuminated, then press and hold "UP" for 3 seconds. Dome lights come on? Probably not...
Verify fuse #12 in passenger kick panel is good. Yes?
Disconnect the light grey plug from the front face of the BCM. Looking at it head on it has 3 blank pins to the bottom right. Using a fused jumper from the battery, or another 12 volt source, apply voltage to the top right pin (above the 3 blanks) and verify the dome lights turn on. If they do, you will need to replace your BCM. This is my issue and guarantee it's 90% of everyone else's problem too, sadly.

How do I go about resetting the Circuit Protection? I have Downloaded the Extended Version of Forscan and under the BCM I cannot find anything listed that says Dome light. DarkCar mode was listed and is turned off. Is it listed under "As Build Data"?
My '11 developed this symptom several mos ago. Based upon research I assumed it was the BCM, but haven't done anything about it.
I will say I had to pull my BCM to replace the blower (this was AFTER the dome light failure and not related to the failure) and even on my '11 XL it's got WAY more plugs than should be legal. I suspect as you get closer to '16 and with a Lariat/KR package the BCM only gets more complex.
I'd gladly return to the days when my dome light was triggered by a momentary door switch and maybe throw in a crude timer for battery safety -- although even the timer is optional. I don't really need my dome light to softly fade out or for all lights to come on with keyless unlock, or 98% of the things the BCM does.
Sorry, what were we talking about....? Oh yeah: how many of us have lost dome lights because of overcomplication!!
