I've seen similar mirrors before. I've found a couple sets of them in the wrecking yard in the past.

I have seen the 1st set up before somewhere. I have not seen the 2nd set up before. Pretty cool way to get "tow" mirrors.

Pretty common in the day. they vibrated good enough it was like the mirror was out of focus if you extended them much.

If extended out, they really needed a third leg to steady them .... like a third leg attached to the mirror base bolt / stud and extending forward to the door's leading edge, with a flat metal hook with rubber cushion maybe, to hold the mirror steadier against the wind.

Thanks for the replies they were new to me
as all the ones I’ve had just were the solid mounted ones and just thought it could have been a special ordered item
