VIN decoding help
I just recently joined after seeing a few decoding posts pop up while searching Google. My husband recently acquired his grandfather’s F600 dump truck. Will you all help me with decoding the VIN, please? I will post a picture below…. From what I can make out, it reads:
F60DVBC0714
134 G? F602 AA8 9 F2
19,200 24
F60 = F600 gas, 4x2
D = 330 2V "XD" FT gas V8
V = Kentucky Truck Plant
BC0714 = 1978 numerical series, December 1977 production
134 = 134 inch wheelbase
G = Chrome Yellow
F602 = F600 gas, 4x2, 19,200 lbs GVWR
AA8
AA = Black Vinyl
8 = Regular cab, cab and chassis vehicle
9 = New Process model NP-542-FD five speed direct transmission
F2 = Eaton model 15201 two speed rear axle, 15,000 lbs capacity, 5.83 / 8.12 ratios
No front axle code visible. For this model year there should be a code. But, given the GVWR, figure a 4,500 lb capacity without power steering. There should be identifying info cast into the axle itself if need be.
19200 = 19,200 lbs GVWR
24 = Jacksonville District Sales Office
No special order
That second plate from General Truck is for the dump body they installed. When it left the Ford line, it was cab and chassis.
Check the wheels--widowmakers were still around, hopefully not on this one.....
