My wife's 2009 f150 has a 4.6l 3 valve engine in it. It dropped a valve into the cylinder as she pulled out the driveway, no warning, no loud ticking. I need an engine. Does anyone out there know of a reputable engine remanufacturer? I've seen Frazier engines all with mostly bad reviews. Powertrain products with some bad reviews. Jasper is another remanufacturer. Don't want Chinese parts. Other than a dealership, does anyone know of a builder that uses all Ford timing components in a rebuild? Or is this something I'm going to have to do myself? Any help would be appreciated!

If you have the tools and knowledge to DIY I'd suggest that route. That way you know what you've got. If it were my truck that I planned to keep a while longer, I'd go for the Ford reman or crate engine drop in. I'm Ford trained in engine repair but I'm also old and time is not on my side. So I'd pay to get the Ford warranty just for the peace of mind. I've dealt with Jasper engines for about 20 years and they do not impress me in the least with their skills of engine building.

Thank you for your information I may have to go that route. Ford wants a small mint for an enĝ
I have the tools and know how. However, I lack the engine since this one's toast. Is the 4.6 2 valve short block and internals the same as the 3 valve short block and internals? Or are the piston crowns different?
I called the Ford dealer and a remanufactured long block is $5700 + 800 core. Not too much difference from other engine sellers. I know the truck isn't worth that much. But its in good shape otherwise. I'm leary about new used Ford trucks and the problems they have ie. Water pump inside the timing cover on v6 turbos or soft intake valves on 5.0 coyote engines. I loathe turbos, except on heavy equipment. 4.6 3 valve was good and had plenty of power. Buying and installing an engine is no car note and interest, and possible other problems with a used truck. Isn't anything made any good any more.

Welcome to the world of choices. Pick one that meets your needs.
FWIW, it’s the sideways 3.5 with the internal water pump.
That aside, why call Ford for a remanned engine price? They get them from the same rebuilders anyone else does. Avoid the dealer markup and call it a day.

Unless they changed in the last 20 years, Ford used only Fred Jones remanufacturing.
To the previous post. If Ford uses Fred Jones manufacturing and it's the same as other engine builders. Who would you suggest that I purchase a reman engine from, that I wouldn't have fords markup? I have no knowledge of any reputable engine rebuilders.

It's not the same as other engine builders. Part of that added cost is the warranty you get with it. Like I said in my original post, I'd opt for that just for the peace of mind.
