Mysterious item..
03 7.3 excursion
Wasn’t sure where else to ask or even search!
Recently was installing ATS springs (x/c) and while wrenching on the truck… a little plastic thing fell off the top of the engine - it looked like it came from passenger side.
Wondering if anyone might know what it is, and how serious of a problem I might have with it not in place…
It’s about 2.5 x 2.5 inches, rather thin, feels like abs plastic, white-ish when not covered in some serious grime.. I tried wiping some off but wanted to leave some on for I.D.
Thanks and much appreciated!

That looks like a worn through spring leaf isolator pad, there are a handful of them on the factory leaves to help keep friction noises from between the leaves under control. They originally had a small pin on one side that seated in a hole on a leaf. That one is very worn out!

And we are going to need some pictures of your wagon with the new springs!

Thank you for the input - my only worry is I saw it drop from the passenger side of the engine while the old stock springs were already removed, so im not 100% sure if its a leaf spring isolator. It looks like some kind of gasket, is tapered (thicker on the bottom, thinner on top).
I tried poking my head up where I saw it fall and it doesnt look like it fits anywhere.. Nothing is loose, nothing is leaking, its quite a head scratcher..
Will work on uploading some pics of the lift!
Thank you for the welcome!
Before - Trailer didn't lower rear any, it was just squatting that much with the old tired springs
Best pic I got post-lift/new springs. Will say it rides a whole lot better (went w/ bilstein 5100s as well) - Truck sits a whole lot more level and I finally dont bottom out going over speedbumps at 10mph..
For the mystery part, between the color, size, wear pattern and rust stain I’m pretty sure that’s a spring isolator pad. No idea how or why it would have been falling from up higher. Look at your old springs if you still have them, there should be one missing (maybe more than one from the looks of how worn that one is!)
How many miles were on the EX/springs at swap time?

just for anyone who may come across same issue, WE3ZS is correct, they are leaf spring isolators, checked the old springs and they still had some in there, my eyes must have deceived me seeing in fall down via passenger engine bay.
thank you for all the assistance, no more worrying on my end 🤣
