2006 F250 4wd, 6.0
I’ve recently got a pretty good vibration while driving at about 50mph. I got under the truck today and started checking u-joints.
I started at the rear moving towards the front and the u-joints on the driveshaft all appeared good .
moving to the front end however, I noticed I can spin the u-joints behind the driver side tire and while I was doing that the driveshaft joining into the transfer case was also spinning. The u-joints behind the passenger side front tire would not spin. I’m gonna guess this is NOT normal?
So last night I turned the hub selector and the. Turned it back to the original position and now it spins. I haven’t had the truck in 4wd for a few month.
Time to take the hubs out, clean them of old cakey grease, and reload them with a bit of grease for smooth operation. Clean and lightly grease the o-ring between your fingers, just a light coat of grease on it so hopefully it seals nice for a few more years, or replace it while you have it apart. Auto-hubs should be disassembled and greased yearly to ensure they don't act up, get sticky, or not operate at all due to vacuum leaks.
