Replacing Clips and Fasteners … kit anywhere??

I am stripped my truck down as much as possible here soon to sand and paint my frame. Of course I will have to do things like move wiring and cables out of the way.

Is there anywhere that sells a kit that supplies various fasteners for our trucks? (Mine being a 2002 F250 SuperCab short bed).

As an example, when I did parking brake cables recently I noticed a tired clip that sits above the rear diff that holds the passenger side cable. Am I going to have to track down part numbers for all these clips around the frame?

Yes. And some clip part numbers were never serviced separately, and were only supplied with the parking brake cable, like the wound wire frame retainers, as an example.

There is no "kit" for clips and fasteners to outfit a frame. All parts, if ever available separately, need to be identified by part number to be ordered. However, most parts are no longer available, due to the age of the vehicle.

After market suppliers... such as "ClipsAndFasteners", may have some generic types of parts that can somewhat serve as a facsimile in purpose, but rarely if ever match the same combination of shape, grip length, capture diameter, retention style, and most importantly, material properties (such as heat tolerance) as the OEM part being sought.

Having a donor vehicle, or a pick and pull nearby, is useful for restorations to match original retention schemes.

When my chassis cab was new in 2000, I made note of a fuel supply and return line retention clip on top of a frame cross member that had 3 orifices.

I later ordered and received a 2003 chassis cab (before the 6.0L), and on that unit I noticed the same clip had 4 orifices. So I used the 2003 VIN to order another 4 orifice clip to replace the 3 orifice clip on on my 2000, for no particular reason. I figured having the extra loop would come in handy one day.

Sure enough, about 5 years later, Ford issued a special service message discussing how water can pool on top of the aft axle fuel tank, and infiltrate the roll over valve. This normally is not an issue with vocational beds that have no holes in the deck above the fuel tank (mind didn't at the time), but it can be an issue for flat beds with Apitong decking, where water can drain down between each board.

Since I was retrofitting the underbed hitch prep kit, I would have holes in my solid steel diamond plate decking, which would increase the opportunity for water to end up on top of the fuel tank, where the rollover valve sat in a well.

Ford later redesigned the top of the fuel tank, moving the rollover valve to a high spot on the corner of the tank, but in the meantime, Ford released a service kit that amounted to a meter long hose with a special one way valve at the end of it, with instructions to attach the open end of the fuel rated hose to the nipple of the rollover valve, and route the one way valve end of the hose to somewhere along the frame, higher than the fuel tank.

That's when my upgraded 4 orifice clip came quite in handy. I was able to route the hose from the tank, to that new clip, and onward toward the frame, just like the fuel lines.

So, all of that is to say that you don't have to limit yourself to just your model year of truck to order OEM quality clips and fasteners to rebuild your truck after your frame restoration.

I have found good success, in a pinch, at AutoZone with the various bobbles they have on the shelf. But as Y2K said, the quality differs many times from OEM parts.
