Exhaust manifolds for 302

My 1984 F150 4x4 302 came with a terrible aftermarket exhaust that I need to replace. One header is leaking, one is melting a plug boot, no cats, pipe touches things it shouldn't etc.

Right now I'm just looking at the manifolds. Trying to track down the OEM part numbers for what was originally on the truck vs. what will fit now.

The intake is an Edelbrock and the carb is a 4-barrel Holley with electric choke. There's no tube going from the air cleaner to the manifold like a stock truck would have. So I assume that Idon't need the "exhaust control valve" if it had one before?

Left (without exhaust control valve):
F2TZ-9431-B / F3TZ 9431-N / F6TZ-9431-C

Left (with exhaust control valve):
E3TZ 9431-A / E5TZ 9431-B

Right:
E0PZ-9430-A
E5TZ-9430-D ???

I've found some part numbers but there's a lot of conflicting information when I search. Can someone point me toward the correct parts?

I love that site. The Exhaust section looks like it lists everything after the manifolds, which will definitely help later. For the manifolds, I found a picture in another section showing 9430 and 9431 but that's the one thing I'm sure of already.

car-parts.com is the junkyard site. You might get lucky there too.

You may find replacements there too.

Summit also has great customer service, call them.

I would buy the exhaust manifolds without the valve. The reason being, for everything to fit you will need the valve which you do not have and I do not know if it's even available anymore, and the valves liked to stick when they got older and cause problems. It's not for the pipe going to the air cleaner, it was to pressurize the one side of the exhaust to force exhaust underneath the carb to heat it up in cold weather. The exhaust manifold outlet made for the valve will be flat with bolt holes for the valve.

The exhaust manifold outlet made without provisions for the valve will have a tapered cone to accept the y-pipe. The y-pipe bolts up and seals just like a brake line. The y-pipe looks like a flare and the exhaust manifold has a cone that accepts the flare.

Look up and see if the y-pipe is different depending on if you use the valve or not, I am not sure about that. www.rockauto.com is a good place to look these parts up and get part numbers. Most of your exhaust parts will be made by Walker and will have walker part numbers. I have found the Ford numbers are not very helpful. rockauto will have the walker numbers usually and then you can do a google search for those numbers.

Thanks. Agreed on avoiding the exhaust valve.

Newb question: I found some NOS OEM manifolds. The aftermarket manifolds (Dorman, ATP) come with gaskets. The shop manual doesn't mention gaskets in the R&R procedure, and I don't see anything in the exploded parts view. Was there not an OEM gasket?

Interesting.

Just went thru this 'discovery' in the 300/6 Engine forum. I guess the 300/6 did not have an intake/exhaust manifold gasket from the factory. Ford used a graphite paste instead. Every 289/302 I've seen had gaskets. Not surprised that NOS manifolds would not have them in the box. You can buy them separately from a known good supplier (Fel-Pro, etc.).

True from the factory v8 exh manifolds did not use gaskets but when ever the manifolds are pulled / replaced you should use a gasket.

As for the 300 because the intake & exh are bolted together I would think the factory only used a intake gasket on exh like the v8's.
Now when the manifolds are pulled / replaced just like the v8 a gasket should be used for both intake & exh and they come stapled together.
