I am in the process of deciding upon a cat back system for my 01 Expy 5.4L and I have a ferw question.
What is the diameter of the stock exhaust pipe behind the cats? I am thinking either a bolt on system like a Gibson swept side or just having a high flow muffler put on like a Magnaflow. If I go the cheap route with a Magnaflow muffler, I'd just have a muffler shop put it on for me but I don't know if I'd gain as much with a full cat back system.
I would go with the full cat-back. I think that the stock pipes are 2.25, But you will gain a heck of alot more with the cat-back. I put a flowmaster dual cat-back with 2.5 pipes and 3'' tips. I got around 20-25 HP.
I bought a kit....but I had my shop put it in for me. The cost to put it in was around 100 bucks (price varies) dual setup will give you more horses, but I do think that there is a prob towing if you have a horse trailer because of the fumes. Look at Flowmasters website, I think they tell you which setups are safe for towing.
