Another post got me to thinking about the fixed boards coming with my new Lariat. The powered ones are included with the Ultimate package but the black appearance package I'm getting replaces them with a fixed set. I really liked the powered version which I had on my 2020, now departed to a new owner. I liked that they stayed pretty clean. I was looking at some options and Amp Research seems to be the go to choice but also ran across some new take off's from some folks that evidently don't like them. Much better prices on them but not sure about the installation. Anyone know if the take off's would be a plug and play? If that doesn't work would the Amp versions be too complicated for someone with average DIY mechanical skills? Any recommendations for brands other than Amp?
factory ones are not plug and play. you need much more than just the boards and wiring harnesses. you also need bcm programming, etc...
i don't know exactly what is entailed, but from what i understand, it is very complicated. i know it has been done on older trucks, but have not seen it done on '23-up.
i have them on my truck, but wish i didn't. the new programming on them is funky. both boards deploy every time a door is opened. doesn't matter which side. the programming can't be changed either.
i would rather have a set of amp steps
I put these on my truck. I needed some that would be low enough for my wife to get in a little easier, and then me as my knees/legs are starting to crap out on me. It took me a few hours to install them mostly by myself (I needed my wife to help actually hang them). Not too bad. Most of the real hard work was making sure the wiring was run and hidden so it all looked factory. I would highly recommend them.
I've saw those when I was looking online but didn't understand how they worked. They look good on your truck. I've had 2 knee replacements in the past year and they might be what I need. I'm going to see how I handle the fixed stock steps first and go from there. Thanks.
You can definitely add PRB to your 24 as long as you use 23+ pieces. (I would get 24 pieces) Where people are running into issues 17-19 use one type and electronics, 20-22 use one and 23+ use something else.
You will need a replacement Driver seat module (DSM) and either fab up harnesses or source the factory ones.
Programming them into your truck can be accomplished with ForScan
The AMPs are a great option. I’ve installed them on my last 5 trucks and the installation is super easy. They can be installed by yourself in about an hour and a half and if you’ve got help, it’ll move along a little quicker. The AMP’s are mostly plug and play with the exception of the door trigger wire that you have to tap into near the OBD port and then the battery connection.
I would think the only way someone wouldn’t like them would be if they lived in areas where snow and ice was constantly building up around them and keeping them from working as intended.
I installed the AMP EXTREME running boards a few months ago and love them. They were easy to install with basic hand tools... 2 things I like about the AMP boards is that only the running board on the side you open the door on deploys. Open driver's door only driver side running board deploys. I also opted for the Extreme running boards which has 2 motors per side as opposed to 1 one the standard AMP boards. One other thing to be aware of when purchasing running boards..... you will see some manufacturers say "600 lb capacity" but when you read the fine print you'll read that's the TOTAL of both sides.... 300lb per side. Which sounds like enough until you have 2 people get out at the same time on the same side. AMP running boards are 600lbs PER SIDE twice what most boards support. Ya get what ya pay for

This is true, here in Wisconsin a lot of owners have failed boards from the elements, unless they are properly maintained and lubed. In fact the AMP's install and remove so easy that I remove mine before snow and road salt season and put on the factory boards. OP, in my opinion AMP has designed these running boards to be DIY, very easy.

Thanks. Gives me confidence I can do it. I wonder if they ever put them on sale?
I just installed AMP ones on my 2017 F250. Very easy. I spent a long time routing wires to keep the install clean, and finding a secure location for the box in the engine compartment.

Man, the winter time is when I appreciate them the most. When they are tucked up under the truck they stay clean and don't ice up.

Salt and the slush will take its toll. My friends truck has factory power boards, ice blocked them up they wouldn't go down and they no longer worked....until he replaced the electric motor. I wish I could keep them on but just don't have the heart lol
