Does anybody offer a complete pay as you go phone any more. I'm not a criminal -- not even a drug dealer. But I am an old guy who lives alone.I'd like to have something so that if I fell down and crushed my precious cell phone -- I could dig out another one and make arrangements or whatever.
I also think of all of the websites that like to text you a secret number to login --most will do an email if you ask -- but not all. I'd like to be able to actually have some back up communications for things like that..
I want a phone that I can just leave in a box unless I need it -- and no charges except the price of the phone until I use it. When I've looked at 'plans' they no longer seemed to provide that option.

Thanks,

If you have a world phone, one that works on all networks regardless of carrier type eg: CDMA or GSM. Then you can buy a pre paid sim card for it, does exactly what you want it to do, holds what ever value balance you pay for in advanced and only loses value as it's used. Most of the newer phones on the market are capable of this feature if they are unlocked. There are a ton of providers of pre paid sim cards, just google search it you'll see.
All had the same thing
IF YOU LET YOUR BALANCE GO TO ZERO (TIME, NOT MINUTES) --YOU HAVE TO RESTART AND YOU WILL PROBABLY LOSE THE PHONE NUMBER
This applies to the 'burners' and the prepaid cards
Years ago, TMob offered a plan that let you go basically forever -- your minutes would stay unless you used them. So, you could have a truly emergency phone. Sadly, those days appear to be over.
Those slick basterds figured out how to jack people anyway huh? Well isn't that a sign of the times. Been 20 years since I had a T Mobile prepaid sim card and things change so.... Only other options I can think of would be Ham or CB radio, walkie talkie, smoke signals, tight string/cans.
They also have that life alert thing, little cell phone built into a pendant you wear around your neck, push a button if you've "Fallen and can't get up" then you can talk to a live person that will get you the help needed. I've tried to convince my mom she should get one (88) but she's stuck on her iPhone.

not quite true. .
life alert push button turns on the call box. there are two types. the central station unit that stays in the house. or the portable that looks like a phone.
my mother has one. yes it looks like a little cell phone. but if you do not take it with you, it does not work once you get around 15 foot from the "cell phone"

I remember when they 1st came out with them way back before cell phones were a thing. I guess the pendant uses a bluetooth connection to it's base station, which back then would have been tied to a landline. No matter the type of connection, it's the best tool for what he wants to do. I haven't found anything in this world that was completely free except advice and air.
even now the pendant or bracelet was just a switch to alert the central station. if you were not in voice distance of the base unit they would not hear you and call local police for a welfare check and your contact in case of emergency number.
You can get a small inexpensive iPad, pair it with your iPhone and set it to make Cell phone calls and texts. Then add a military cover for it that super protects it and the screen from damage. It also has an adjustable stand to horizontal or vertical positions and fits onto the Palm for use while walking / hiking. It pairs with your Cell WiFi 5G in systems. So you have Cell and WiFi 5G even in the country if there is a tower.
You need to add the right chip to work with your provider network. It will also pair with WiFi 5G and places like Coffee houses WIFI's. all networks, truck stops that sort of stuff. If you are at a friends or relatives it will pair with their network access password there. It gives you near computer capabilities too. So if you break your screen on your Cell you still got the capabilities to get out with the iPad paired with it.
The larger the size of the screen, the easier it is to use at a desk but a 9.7 or smaller is fine for mobile use and far easier to use than the smart phone tiny screens. If you have Android the Tablets will do the same basically with it. Chrome and Android Tablets are awesome too. Chrome Wi-Fi and Android will work well.

Can you get un-stuck off stupid long enough to actually care about the subject matter? Politics HAVE NO PLACE HERE. I-U'm sure you know. The issue at hand is communication when disabled. This subject strikes a soft spot for me.
where did you pull politics in that post out of? it is nothing but common sense truth.
and yes i know what i am talking about, we have had life alert for over 15 years now.

No need to explain. I can see your mind is on another plane of existence.
Hey your2 stop quibbling with each other and help / talk strait to Ford2go. He wants some plain sense answers.
What I am hearing is desperation, be it whatever, he wants a plain answer so he can choose the best decision for his debacle.
ford2go you will most likely notice a lot of friction on this forum. Good luck to you and your choices.

Guess that leaves you out. All you post is nonsense which is why you keep getting booted out of forum after forum. I got nothing against you personally and no one else does either man, but you clog up forums with nonsense, well, people just get tired of that idiocy. You have plagued every forum I've been in for the last 6 years with the same bs. WTF man? Get juiced one too many times?
Have you given thought to communication methods that align with the other 8 billion people on this rock?
